Sudden Flash
A lightning flash illuminates everything with sudden intensity, making us feel as if we have seen the most revealing view of reality.
But it is gone almost as soon as it happens, leaving the dark filled with after-images and inaccurate, fleeting memories of a partial picture of what surrounds us.
The same can happen with beguiling beliefs and systems of interpretation, which seem, for a brief time, to be a revelation but are only a snapshot of one perspective. Perhaps the view is intensely lit or coloured, but there is no sound basis for finding our way.
Wait for the after-images to fade before taking the next step.
