The Road Ahead
So, you finally decided that trying to be what other people want isn’t going to work.
Whether it’s what you say and express, or what you do for a living, or even your brand. As my friend Tracy O’Shaughnessy likes to say, a brand that tries to be for everyone is for no one.
You’ve connected with that truth and gathered your courage to get behind what you really think and believe and be AUTHENTIC.
Great!
A couple of things. That means giving what you have to offer; it’s not a call for an ego-fest or “I’m right, and everyone else is wrong”.
It’s about recognizing where your particular truth is a significant contribution, and that needs some thought and sensitivity to where other people are at and what will be helpful.
Of course, some people will look at what you offer and may even be offended. That’s OK. They aren’t your people. You don’t need to fight with them.
If you are filled with the energy and enthusiasm of your brave decision to “do you”, that’s great, but think it through too before charging ahead. It can save a lot of energy and disappointment.
Taking this step to do what you really believe in is scary. You can’t know in advance what kind of reactions it will prompt, but if you let this keep you alert to any problems as they begin, you will be OK.
