Gathering change
The cracked façade of normal is crumbling quickly. Every day, it becomes more evident that Business as Usual will kill us all (Don’t Look Up).
It’s not that we don’t want to change in many cases. It just seems impossible to get off the carousel. And this carousel is no fun at all. Exhaustion, obsession, depression, and breakdown, scrabbling just to stay still.
Knowing that all that energy is going into continuing a dance you have long since stopped believing in as anything more than a brute necessity of survival.
But that may be the key. As we are driven to ever more frantic efforts for basic survival, the trade of our time, energy, and soul becomes less and less acceptable. It is an ever-thinner pretense that the scrabbling will somehow result in our joining the tiny percentage of those with far more than they could ever need or use.
So, as we look at what is coming down the tracks, maybe it is asking us for more significant changes than seem possible in our own lives. Choosing purpose over profit, wellbeing over GDP, and mutual concern and collaboration over dog-eat-dog. It’s our choice to make.
