Crossing into the New

Many people talk about liminal states as states of transition from one set of conditions to another. A change from one framework to another. And a lot of the time, that seems to be true.

Yet change is happening all the time, even within what seems to us like a settled, stable framework.

The liminal is threaded through the core of everything. That being the case, it’s not surprising to find ourselves repeatedly needing to consider and adapt to change. Even when we think we are on stable ground.

What is beyond the boundaries of what we consider “settled” can undermine what we are doing and trying to achieve. But the way to deal with this is to fully accept impermanence and the fact that we are liminal creatures ourselves, constantly in the process of change.

We are always crossing into what is new. To be aware of that is to be mindful of the risks and opportunities and be ready to adapt. Then we can achieve the surfer’s stability by managing our process of change in harmony with changes in circumstances.

Keeping our balance and remaining open to the flow of change.

We are fortunate indeed if we can do this with trustworthy companions on the journey.
