A Deep Hole

Stop! The hole is deep enough. Stop digging. When we look up, we see we have dug it so deep we can't scramble out. Digging deeper will not lead to a way out.

There is water coming in, though. If we panic, we might drown.

If we wait calmly, we might get a bit cold and wet, but we will eventually float to the top and get out.

And when we look the following day, we see it as quite a useful well. It's probably a good idea to put a wall around it to stop people from falling in. And maybe a winch with a bucket.

Perhaps there was a reason for all that gloomy digging after all. It was obviously deep enough.
