Overwhelmed with Possibilities?

When we try to understand something of great complexity, it’s easy to find ourselves adrift in an ocean of information and impressions.

That is a natural part of coming to know something, but it is easy to feel lost and like we are failing. Then it is tempting to try to force an understanding to arise, almost to demand it.

That interferes with the natural subconscious process of solving problems of great complexity. Mind-wandering or daydreaming is a significant part of this solution process, so just when we feel most at sea may be the time to switch off consciously and let our minds idle for a while.

Then we find we can see many more possibilities, and the territory revealing itself is richer and stranger than we first thought.

We have come to know what we are trying to understand more deeply, and to see how we can continue on our way with many more options to explore.
